Last week we started learning about long vowel sounds. We spent most of the week reading words with the long a sound. This week we are working on reading words with the long i sound. Many of the stories we are reading include words with long a, short a, long i and short i. As you can imagine, this can get a little confusing! Have your child practice reading the following list of works to you. They are a mix of some of the words they are working on in school.
Long i and Short i Words
line, dime, time, side, nine, mine, bike, hide, fine, kid, sit, kit, fish, pig, dig
Long a and Short a Words
fate, ape, pale, cake, lake, take, base, cape, rate, bat, pat, jam, rat, Pam, tap, lap
You can use these words along with our sight words and write sentences for your child to practice reading. Remember we are encouraging students to read fluently!
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns!
