Practice Makes Perfect!

Over the holiday break you may want to practice some of the skills that we have been working on so far this year.

In Math we are working on identifying and writing numbers 0-30. We have been using ten frames to help us learn the numbers 10-30. We have also been working on the number line. After the holidays I will begin some assessments for our report card. It would be good to review equal parts, symmetry, counting from 1-31, patterns, shapes, colors, spatial relationships (above, below, over, under, top, middle, bottom, left, right).

In Writing, we are working on writing independently in our kid writing journals. Please encourage your child to write independently at home. Students should be able to write at least one complete sentence. They should remember to leave meatball spaces between the words, use punctuation, and start the sentence with a capital letter.

In Language Arts we are working on identifying plot (beginning, middle, end). We are also reviewing character, setting and main idea. We also reviewed nouns and verbs this week as well. Now that we know our letters and sounds we have been working very hard on decoding words and reading sentences and short stories. Please encourage your child to read to you at home. If your child is unable to read an entire book ask him/her to read some sight words or decodable words in the story to you! Here is a list of some decodable words for your child to practice reading at home (kid, did, dip, Kim, sad, kin, mat, pan, fan, fits, fin, rim, rat, ribs, nap, ram, man, cabs, Nan, rap, ant, sip, bat). Please also remember to save the decodable readers that come home each week. Those books are great practice for your child!

Thanks for your support and cooperation!
Have a Happy New Year!

Welcome Santa!

Today at our holiday party Santa made a surprise visit! The students were so excited when Santa started handing out gifts to each of them! Enjoy the pictures!

I wish everyone a very fun and relaxing holiday season!

Ice Cream Party!

Congratulations, Kindergarten, for earning 50 yellow wolves. I hope you enjoyed the ice cream party!

Keep up the good work!

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

We have been busy making decorations for the hallway! We sponge painted Santas last week and we also made reindeer.

We just finished Unit 2 in Language Arts. We had our Unit Test on Monday. If you have not returned the assessment please do so ASAP. In Unit 3 we will continue working on setting, character, main idea, compare and contrast, and realism and fantasy. We will also continue to review all letters and sounds. You should have received the Unit 3 sight words. Please begin to practice those at home. Once your child knows all of the words please return them in a labeled bag or envelope so we can test your child in school. Also remember to review the Unit 1 and 2 words as well! We will continue to work on decoding new words. Here is a list of some words you can practice at home (tip, sip, pat, cat, rug, map, tin, man, can, tub, bit, bam, nap, mom, Tom, Bim, Pam, cabs, Nan, bats, ram, ribs, rim). Please also remember to read the little tan booklets that are sent home each week.

Many of us are writing independently now! Some of us are even writing 2 or 3 sentences in their journals. Please encourage your child to write at home. Remind them to make the first letter capital and the rest lowercase. They should be leaving meatball spaces between words and they should be using correct punctuation at the end of the sentence.

Just a few reminders--

1. We will be attending the Book Fair Monday morning, December 12th. If you want to send money in with your child please send it in an envelope or bag marked with your child's name and "Book Fair Money" on it.
