This week we are reading a story that is all about seeds.  Yesterday for kid writing I had the students write about what they would like to plant.  We hope you enjoy listening to our latest podcast!

Science Fun!

Yesterday we conducted our first Science experiment!  There were five cups with different food items in each cup.  The items included an onion, cinnamon, lemon, green pepper and coffee beans.  The students had to use their sense of smell to determine what was in each cup. We hope you enjoy the pictures!

Baby Pictures!

I would like to thank everyone for sending in baby pictures for our project last week.  The pictures were absolutely adorable! We enjoyed looking at the pictures and trying to figure out which baby picture belonged to which student.

This week in Language Arts we are discussing plot in the story "Farfallina and Marcel". We are reviewing the sight words "see" and "look".  This week we will focus on letter Kk /k/. On Wednesday I will read a story and each child will have to tell me the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  They will also have to tell me the characters and setting of the story.  This assessment will be used for the upcoming report card.

Please encourage your child to write independently at home.  Remind them to leave spaces between each word, start the sentence with a capital letter and use punctuation at the end of the sentence.  You can also encourage them to write more than one sentence!

In Math we will begin a new chapter.  In this next chapter we will learn to count by 2's, 5's and 10's to 100.  Please practice these skills at home each night.

*The February Newsletter will be coming home next week.  Please read it over carefully. We have a lot of fun things happening next month!
*Many of the students supplies are running low.  Please check with your child to see if he/she needs new pencils, erasers, glue sticks or crayons!  Thank You!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

So far 2013 has been very busy for us.  In Math we are just about to finish chapter 6 which was all about numbers 11-30.  Please practice writing and identifying these numbers at home.  Students will be expected to identify the numbers and fill in ten frames for the upcoming test. They will also have to fill in the missing number on the number line.

In preparation for the report card we will begin some testing later this week and next week.  It would be good to review solid figures, sorting, patterns, symmetry, and spatial relationships.  Please also review character, setting, main idea and decoding new words.

In Language Arts this week we are learning about cause and effect.  Since we are reading "See How We Grow" we will also continue to talk about how we grow and change as we get older.  A note will be coming home very soon asking you to send in a baby picture of your child.  At the end of the week we will try to identify which baby picture belongs to which student in our class.

In Science we are continuing to learn about the senses.  Next week we will be doing an experiment using our sense of smell!

Please remind your child to follow our George Wolf HERO rules and expectations!  Remember that your child's goal is to receive two paws each day!

Please remember that we do have school on Monday, January 21st!

Many students are running out of glue sticks, pencils and crayons.  Please ask your child if he/she needs any of these supplies to make it to the end of the year.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and a very Happy New Year!

Now that we are back from break we are busier than ever!  This week we started a new chapter in Math.  We will be using ten frames to learn about numbers 11-30.  Please practice numbers 0-30 with your child on a regular basis.  Students must be able to correctly identify and write each number.

In Language Arts we continuing to review sight words from Units 1 &  2.  We are also working on the words (me, she, with) from Unit 3.  Next week we will discuss plot when we read our new story "Little Quack".  We will also work on letter Rr and we will continue practicing decoding new words.

Please continue to encourage your child to write complete sentences at home.  Each child is expected to write at least one complete sentence independently.  Please encourage your child to write more than one sentence if they can!

Reminder- We will have school on Monday, January 21st!
