Patterns, Patterns, Patterns!

Last week we started our new Math Chapter- Patterns. We practiced making movement patterns and music patterns last week. In the picture on the left Jacob and James are making music patterns. You can practice patterns at home by using cereal, noodles, or toys! You can have your child draw patterns using markers, crayons or paint. Please practice AB, AAB, ABB, and ABC patterns with your child. In the picture below Mackenzie and Emma are extending patterns on the board. We will also continue to practice counting form 1-31 and reciting the days of the week an months of the year. Ask you child to sing the days of the week and months of the year for you (if they haven't already)!

In Language Arts we have learned letters and sounds Aa-Ww. Please practice these letters and the sounds they make on a daily basis. We will be creating a podcast of our alphabet chant in the next few days! We are continuing working on the sight words- I, am, the, little. I will introduce the remaining sight words next week. Once your child knows all of the Unit 1 sight words please return them so your child can be tested at school. We are also reviewing, character, setting, and sequence.

As always, thank you for your support and cooperation!

We Are.......Writers!

We started kid writing last week! I am happy to report that the students are doing a wonderful job so far. We are learning how to start our sentence on the left side of the page, begin the sentence with a capital letter, leave "meatball spaces" in between words and finish our sentence with a period. Please encourage your child to write at home!

Tomorrow we will have our Chapter 1 Math Test. Please look over your child's worksheet tonight, as it will have many of the key concepts that we have learned about in this chapter. On Thursday we will begin Chapter 2, which will be all about patterns!

In Language Arts we are working on character, setting and sequence. Please review these at home when reading with your child each night. We have also learned about letters A-P. Please review those letters and the sounds they make each night. We are also working on sight words- I, am, the, little. Once your child knows all of the Unit 1 sight words please send them into school labeled with your child's name. We will test your child and send the cards back home for you to continue to practice throughout the year.

Reminders:
~ Please make sure you send lunch money in an envelope or baggie with your child's name on it.

Busy Kindergarteners!

Kindergarten is now in full swing! We have been busy learning a lot of new things this week.

In Language Arts, we talked about characters in a story. At home when reading with your child each night ask them to identify the characters in the story. We talked extensively about the sight words "I" and "am". Please continue practicing the orange sight word cards with your child. Once they know all the words return them to school paper clipped together or in a baggie labeled with your child's name. We have been practicing writing capital and lowercase letters A-D. We have also practiced identifying those letters and the sounds they make. Review these letters and sounds at home each night. We will work on letters E-I next week! Continue to help your child write his/her first name. Remember the first letter is capital and the rest are lowercase. We started working on rhyming this week and we will review that next week as well.

In Math, we are working on the following skills- top, middle, bottom, above, below, over, under, in, out, left and right. Remember to take a look at your child's math worksheet each night. On the back you will find at-home activities that you can do with your child. We are also learning about the words- first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. Please review these terms on a regular basis!

Other reminders-
~Please send a snack with your child each day (drinks are optional, but suggested)
~ I could use donations of tissues, skinny dry erase markers and clorox wipes
~ Please help your child learn his/her pin number

Our First Few Days In Kindergarten!

The first two days of kindergarten went well! I hope your child had a good time this week. We read fun stories, colored pictures, learned our school rules, and attended our first assembly. Next week we will start to get very busy because we will begin Language Arts, Writing and Math. I will be sending homework home on Tuesday night and Wednesday night. We will also spend time reviewing the classroom and school rules. Please refer to the SWPBS matrix, located on the inside of your child's assignment book, for information about our SWPBS expectations.

Just a few reminders-
* send your child in with a snack each day. You may also send in a juice box for snack time. Many students are thirsty at snack time since it is right after recess.
* sign and date your child's assignment book each night- remember 2 paws means it was a great day!
* send in an art shirt if you have not yet done so - we will be painting next week!
* make sure your child knows if he/she is a packer or a buyer each day
*return your child's yellow folder everyday

New information- I introduced my classroom treasure chest today. Students who receive two paws each day will get to pick a prize out of my treasure chest at the end of the week! I do this in addition to the blue tickets they receive as part of SWPBS which they will redeem for prizes.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for your support and cooperation!

Have a wonderful weekend!
