Fun With Patterns!

Last week we started a new chapter in Math, Patterns.  You can practice patterns at home by using cereal, noodles, or small toys! You can have your child draw patterns using markers, crayons or paint. Please practice AB, AAB, ABB, and ABC patterns with your child.  We will also continue to practice counting from 1-31 and reciting the days of the week and months of the year. Ask your child to sing the days of the week and months of the year for you (if they haven't already)!

In Language Arts we have learned the letters and sounds Aa-Rr. Please practice these letters and the sounds they make on a daily basis. We will be creating our first podcast of our alphabet chant in the next few days! We are continuing working on the sight words- I, am, the, little. I will introduce the remaining sight words next week. Once your child knows all of the Unit 1 sight words please return them so your child can be tested at school. We are also reviewing character, setting, and sequence.

As always, thank you for your support and cooperation!

Another Great Week!

Today we had our first math test.  You will see it in your child's folder tonight.  Please review it, sign it and return it to school on Monday.  You will also see our Week 2 Language Arts Assessment.  They had to name the letters and read the three sight words on the bottom of the page.  Please sign that assessment and return it to school on Monday.

Next week will be working on identifying character, setting, and sequence in a story.  When reading with your child each night please remember to review these skills that we are teaching in school.  We will also continue working on the Unit 1 sight words.  If you have not retuned the Unit 1 words please practice them with your child and send them in as soon as your child knows all of the words!  We will also learn the letters and sounds Oo-Ss.  Please review letters and sounds Aa-Nn over the weekend.  Please also review rhyming and syllables!

Next week in Math will beginning learning about Patterns.  Please review the Math worksheet that comes home each night to see what patterns we are working on.

As always please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
Have a great weekend!

Busy Learners!

Kindergarten is now in full swing! We have been busy learning a lot of new things this week.

In Language Arts, we talked about characters in a story. At home when reading with your child each night ask them to identify the characters in the story. We talked extensively about the sight words "I" and "am". Please continue practicing the orange sight word cards with your child. Once they know all the words return them to school paper clipped together or in a baggie labeled with your child's name. We have been practicing writing capital and lowercase letters A-F. We have also practiced identifying those letters and the sounds they make. Review these letters and sounds at home each night. We will work on letters G-K next week! Continue to help your child write his/her first name. Remember the first letter is capital and the rest are lowercase. We started working on rhyming this week and we will review that next week as well.

In Math, we are working on the following skills- top, middle, bottom, above, below, over, under, in, out, left and right. Remember to take a look at your child's math worksheet each night. On the back you will find at-home activities that you can do with your child. We are also learning about the words- first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. Please review these terms on a regular basis! Our first Math test will be on Thursday!

Other reminders-
~Please send a snack with your child each day (drinks are optional, but suggested)
~ I could use donations of tissues and clorox wipes
~ Please help your child learn his/her pin number
~ Please review the George Wolf "HERO" rules and expectations. They can be found in your child's orange behavior book inside their yellow folder
~Please sign your child's behavior book each night and empty their folder
