Math Fun!

This week in Math we are learning about numbers 0-5, estimation, and before and after on the number line.  We will be having a test on these skills on Tuesday.

In Language Arts we are reading a story called "Life in an Ocean".  We are working on comparing and contrasting different ocean animals from the story.  This week we are reviewing character, setting, and main idea.  We are practicing letter naming and sounds each day in school as well.  Please review letters, sounds, and sight words each night with your child.  We are also learning how to decode and read basic words.  The following list is an example of some words we practice decoding in school: map, mat, mop, man, at, an, sat, Sam, Pam, sip.  Please continue to read with your child each night!

Fun With Patterns!

Last week we started a new chapter in Math, Patterns.  You can practice patterns at home by using cereal, noodles, or small toys! You can have your child draw patterns using markers, crayons or paint. Please practice AB, AAB, ABB, and ABC patterns with your child.  We will also continue to practice counting from 1-31 and reciting the days of the week and months of the year. Ask your child to sing the days of the week and months of the year for you (if they haven't already)!

In Language Arts we have learned the letters and sounds Aa-Rr. Please practice these letters and the sounds they make on a daily basis. We will be creating our first podcast of our alphabet chant in the next few days! We are continuing working on the sight words- I, am, the, little. I will introduce the remaining sight words next week. Once your child knows all of the Unit 1 sight words please return them so your child can be tested at school. We are also reviewing character, setting, and sequence.

As always, thank you for your support and cooperation!
