This we week we are continuing our discussion about living things. We reviewed the parts of a plant and what a plant needs to grow and survive. On Monday we planted marigolds. The students had a great time doing this. They are anxiously waiting for the seeds to sprout! Thank you for all of the donations of potting soil and marigold seeds! In Math we are working on graphing. We are concentrating on reading information from a picture graph. We are working on words like "more" and "fewer". It would be good to review patterns, numbers, money, measurement, and counting by 5's, 10;s, and 2's at home on occasion. We do continue to practice these skills in school as well. We will be starting addition and subtraction in our next chapter!
In Language Arts we are reviewing cause and effect. We have been working hard on identifying main idea in stories as well. These are tough skills so they require a lot of practice. This week we are also working on the letter Xx. We are also reviewing telling sentences and questions.
I am happy to report that our class book is finished. I sent it to the publisher two weeks ago and we are all waiting patiently for it to arrive. I am so proud of how well they are writing! It is so wonderful to see them get excited about writing!!
On Tuesday we screen printed our t-shirts for Field Day! The students had such a good time making their shirts and they all turned out great. I will be sending them home tomorrow. In the picture on the left Madelyn is pressing the ink into the screen with the help of Mr. Bindics. The pictures on the bottom are of Luke and Madison making their shirts. A special thanks to Mr. Bindics for making this possible!

When the students arrived Thursday morning they were surprised to see jelly beans on the floor near the student computers. It turns out the Easter Bunny typed them a note and dropped some jelly beans while he was in our classroom. The picture on the left is Caroline reading the note from the Easter Bunny to the class.
This week we will be doing lots of seasonal crafts. Today we made bunnies out of paper plates. In the picture to the left Luke is tracing a bunny ear on pink construction paper. In the pictures below Lucas and Emma are showing off their finished bunnies.
Throughout the year kindergarten has been working very hard on kid writing. They have improved so much over the last few months and they are very enthusiastic about writing. I announced last week that we would be making a class book and they were extremely excited about the news. The theme for the book will be ocean animals. Each student chose their favorite ocean animal and they were asked to think of two sentences to write about that animal. We began the rough drafts last week and we finalized them on Monday. Today we began writing on the pages that will make up the actual book! Later this week we will be drawing and coloring the pictures for the book. More information will be coming home later this month regarding information about purchasing a copy of the book! 
Today we started getting ready for St. Patrick's Day. Each student made a pot of gold using corn pops for the gold. Their favorite part of the project was eating the leftover cereal! Tomorrow they will be writing about what they would do if they found a real pot of gold.
