Welcome Cheddar!

We would like you to meet our class pet--Cheddar! Cheddar is a beta fish that the class earned from receiving 40 yellow wolf tickets for excellent HERO behavior. Keep up the good work kindergarten!

Congratulations to Mackenzie who had the winning journal entry and got to name the fish. Thank you to Mrs. Ginther for helping us with our "name the pet" writing contest!!

Have a good weekend!

Learning New Things!

I can't believe it is November already! The time is really flying by. I hope everyone is ready for the holidays. They are just around the corner! We hope you like the turkeys that we made this week!!

The students are learning a lot of new things everyday! One of the most exciting new things that we are working on is decoding words. For example, if the student sees the word "mat" he/she
must say the sounds in the word- /m/ /a/ /t/. The student must repeat the sounds faster and faster until he/she is able to read the word "mat". Here are a list of some of the decodable words we have been reading in class.

You will notice that the little tan booklets that are sent home once a week (usually Thursday or Friday) will have some of these decodable words in them. I would suggest keeping the tan booklets and having your child read a few of them a week throughout the school year.

We also started learning about main idea and we are continuing to review the Unit 1 and Unit 2 sight words. We also practice identifying capital and lowercase letters and sounds on a daily basis.

As always please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Here are a few pictures from our Fall Party!

Thanks Parents!

It was nice having so many of you in our classroom this week. We hope you enjoyed visiting us!

In Math this week we started learning about numbers 0-5. Please help your child practice writing these numbers at home. Today we learned about the number line. We practiced identifying numbers that come before and after on a number line. Next week we will review equal groups, more and fewer, numbers 0-5, and the number line. We will have a test on these concepts on Wednesday!

In Language Arts we reviewed character and setting this week. We worked on the sight words "have, is". Please review the Unit 1 and Unit 2 sight words on a regular basis! It would also be good to practice letters, sounds, rhyming, and syllables!

In Science we learned about our internal and external body parts. We hoped you enjoyed our scarecrows!

Just a reminder- next Friday, October 28th is an early dismissal day for the students! We will be having our Fall Harvest Party. No costumes are allowed!
Have a great weekend!

Fire Prevention!

I would like to thank the Bath Volunteer Fire Department for visiting George Wolf Elementary School and teaching the kindergarten students all about fire safety! The students had a blast and they learned a lot of important new things. HERO the wolf even made an appearance.

Monday we will be having our first Unit Test in Language Arts. It would be good to review letters, sounds, all of the Unit 1 sight words, rhyming skills, and character and setting. Also, please make sure your child can correctly write his/her first name!
