Beach Party 2010!

Since we can't go to the beach we brought the beach to our classroom! The students sat on beach towels, wore sunglasses, and we listened to Hawaiian music while playing beach bingo for prizes. We even did some hula dancing! A BIG thank you to Mrs. Gray for making our delicious treat! Enjoy the pictures!

A Busy May!

Last week we began subtraction. For the remainder of the year we will be working on both addition and subtraction problems. Please continue to practice these skills at home along with all of the skills that we learned this year. Some of those skills include money (penny, nickel, dime), patterns, graphing, counting by 2's/5's/10's, reciting the months of the year and days of the week and counting from 1-100.

In language arts we will be reviewing all of the skills that we learned this year. Some of these skills include letter recognition, letter sounds, blends, decoding words, plot, character, setting, main idea, nouns, verbs and adjectives. Remember that it is always a good idea to read to your child each night. At this point in the year they can probably read some books to you!

Just a reminder- the Kindergarten Picnic is on Tuesday, June 8th. We still need some volunteers to bring in a grill to cook the hot dogs. Please contact me if you would be willing to help us out and bring in a grill!

Field Day 2010!

Field Day was a lot of fun this year! Although the weather was a bit cool at least it didn't rain! I think it is safe to say that tug of war was the most favorite event. We made an awesome come back when we beat Mr. Frederecks' class, but we unfortunately lost to Mrs. Quinones' class in the championship round. Our kindergarten class would like to say "thank you" to Mrs. Vajda for all of her hard work and preparation for Field Day. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Happy May!

This week in Math we started addition. So far we learned how to act out addition problems, recognize addition patterns, and use pictures to solve addition problems. Take a look at the Math worksheet that is sent home each day for "at home activities" you can do with you child at home to help practice what is learned in school. Toward the end of May we will begin subtraction. I would encourage you to make flashcards at home and practice addition and subtraction problems at home with your child over the summer.

In Language Arts we are just finishing Unit 5. We will be having the Unit 5 Test very soon. It would be good to review beginning, middle and ending sounds, blends, all 40 sight words, character, setting, main idea and plot. We have also been working on identifying nouns and verbs in sentences.

Just a reminder, Field Day is on Monday, May 10th from 12:30-2:30 and we will be using the fields in the back of the school near the playground. Please feel free to come and cheer our team on! Please make sure your child wears his/her yellow field day shirt!
